Thermotex Heated Infrared Therapy Blanket for Horses
The Thermotex Therapy Systems delivers gentle, deep-penetrating, and therapeutic infrared heat to the horse’s neck, back, shoulder, lung, barrel, and hip to relieve pain. After just 20 minutes of use, the soothing infrared wavelengths penetrate up to 2.36 inches into the applied area. This increases blood flow, which enhances the natural properties that the body requires to heal—providing nutrients, oxygen, and proteins to the area and delivering relief of pain and inflammation.
Thermotex delivers more effective and deep penetrating heat versus conventional heating pads, which rely on conductive heat production from wire coil resistance. Horses are comfortable during the treatments because the skin is not overheating. Since there is no dehydration factor during treatment, which allows Thermotex to be applied for long periods, The deep therapeutic heat is relaxing. It provides a comforting and powerful psychological effect to the horse. Watching the horses during and after treatment tells us how good it must feel to them!
About Infrared Therapy
Infrared is the non-visible wavelength of light therapy. The infrared therapeutic heat in the Thermotex provides a deep penetrating form of thermal energy. This increase in thermal energy within the tissue increases the metabolic processes within the cells. This causes an increase in blood flow to the area, a decrease in pain, a decrease in stiffness, and an increase in tissue extensibility.
Infrared heat has an analgesic effect on the tissue and provides a soothing effect on the sensory nerve endings. This leads to relaxation within the tissues, especially the muscle tissue. As a result of the increase in circulation, the waste products of injury are removed at an increased rate and are not allowed to stay in the area. These waste products are what create nerve sensitivity and pain.
With the increase in blood flow and the added heat application, muscle tissue becomes more elastic and is no longer left in a state of spasm. This allows the muscles to elongate further and more efficiently when placed under exercise stress. The same positive benefits can be seen with the tendons and ligaments. They become more elastic, which provides some prevention of strains and sprains while exercising.
Utilizing the deep penetrating infrared to a joint also has numerous benefits. An immediate increase in the elasticity and flexibility of the tendons and ligaments associated with that joint. This allows for a greater range of motion and relief of stiffness.
Application
We have found that these tell-tale wet spots develop over time during a series of Thermotex treatments. These spots indicate where further treatment is needed, and we generally follow up with the SoundWave or Microcurrent on these areas. Some horses will show nothing for several treatments, but these things are brought to the surface over time.
